Description

 

Objective:

To implement a comprehensive preventative maintenance program for all turf and grounds equipment, keep record of parts and labor, maintain an inventory of parts and supplies needed for service.  Perform all necessary repairs on turf equipment.  Mowing District lawns.  Repair and maintenance of irrigation systems, pumps, and controllers.  Perform pesticide applications, pruning, and other duties as assigned.

 

Duties:

  • Diagnose and repair mechanical and hydraulic faults in turf maintenance equipment including diesel and gas mowers, tractors, top dressers, 4 wheelers, compressors, and all attachments used in turf maintenance.
  • Prioritize equipment repair and maintenance work.
  • Maintain a preventive maintenance program.
  • Maintain an inventory of repair parts.
  • Keep a complete set of records for each piece of equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair emergency breakdowns of turf equipment.
  • Keep neat, clean and safe work area.
  • Properly sharpen and balance mower blades.
  • Operate mowers, tractors, and other grounds maintenance equipment.
  • Prepare and maintain athletic fields including grooming and striping.
  • Troubleshoot and repair irrigation systems including sprinklers, controllers, pumps, valves, PRV valves and backflow preventers and winterizing.
  • Pruning, raking, leaf blowing.
  • Safely apply pesticides and maintain records.
  • Manual labor including heavy lifting, stooping, bending, and twisting.
  • Snow removal and plowing.
  • Flexible, use initiative, self-starter, positive attitude, team player.

Professional Qualifications:

  1. 5+ years overseeing maintenance of turf equipment fleet, including wide –area mowers, such as Toro or Jacobsen, and full-size tractors.
  2. Experience troubleshooting and repairing hydraulic pumps, hoses, drives, and cylinders on wide-area mowers and turf equipment.
  3. Experience in welding and fabricating.
  4. Experience reading and interpreting parts schematics, wiring diagrams and repair manuals.
  5. Experience diagnosing and repairing diesel and gas engines.
  6. Experience operating mowers, tractors and other equipment used in turf maintenance.
  7. Experienced at operating fertilizer spreader, aerator, box scraper, front end loader, fork lift.
  8. Experience operating and maintaining weed eaters, leaf blowers, chainsaw, etc.
  9. Experience with snow plow and snow blower.
  10. Experience in operating irrigation controllers.
  11. Experience troubleshooting and repairing irrigation pumps.
  12. Must have or be able to obtain Washington State Pesticide Applicator license.
  13. High School diploma or GED.
  14. Valid Washington State Driver’s license.
  15. Self-starter and team player
  16. Able to work safely and efficiently.
  17. Ability to use computer to complete work requests and other work related functions.
  18. Neat and clean personal appearance.
  19. Excellent attendance and punctuality.

Physical Demands:

The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands:

  1. Requires physical exertion to manually move, walk, crawl, kneel, lift, carry, pull or push heavy objects or materials.
  2. Requires climbing and balancing.
  3. Must work around dust, fumes and odors.
  4. Must work in noisy and crowded environments.
  5. Involves stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling.
  6. Requires lifting and carrying objects up to 75 pounds.
  7. Able to work in all ranges of temperatures and weather occurring in the region.
  8. Able to work in environment that is regularly exposed to chemicals, solvents, fuel, grease.

Mandatory Conditions of Employment:

  • Successful clearance of the FBI and Washington State Patrol fingerprint background check.
  • Successful Washington State Sexual Misconduct clearance.
  • Completion of federal I-9 form.
  • Maintain consistent presence at assigned worksite and regular work hours.
  • Comply with all District policies and operational procedures.
  • Comply with the Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Maintain punctuality and regular attendance.
  • Maintain certification at all times.
