Description | Duties:
Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTAs) in the educational setting provide specially designed instruction and related services under the supervision of a certificated therapist. The COTAs collaborate with specialists, families and, educational team members to develop appropriate education programs for students and advise on health related concerns as they impact education for students with special needs. Duties to include:
- Assist district specialists with their evaluation, program design, and service delivery for students who meet WAC criteria for Specially Designed Instruction under a qualified disability.
- Assist with designing, implementing, and monitoring students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEP).
- Work collaboratively with teams during, before, and after school as needed.
- Assist therapists and other district staff in improving services to include: Motor Planning, Fine Motor Skill Acquisition, Bilateral Coordination, Environmental Adaptations and Accommodations, Manual Dexterity, Visual Perception Development, Self-Care Development, and Task-Specific Strength/Range of Motion/Endurance.
- Manage, operate, and make minor repairs/adjustments to equipment and supplies needed for students’ programs.
- Maintain strong, productive relationships with other employees, parents, and students.
- Maintain appropriate levels of confidentiality in all matters pertaining to students, parents, staff, and program.
- Other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrate completion of accredited COTA program.
- Possess a current COTA certification.
- Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
- Experience in public school setting is strongly preferred.
- Proven ability to work under a therapist and translate services into improved school functioning for students.
- Demonstrated ability to prescribe appropriate motor instruction and training; use a variety of strategies; plan and carry out services to meet varied needs of students.
- Ability to establish rapport with students, colleagues, and classified personnel.
- Excellent attendance required.
Physical Requirements:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands:
- Ability to regularly walk, run, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, push, pull.
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
