TWO Positions:

6.50 hours/day

5.75 hours/day

 

Description:

Special Education Paraeducators are a unique group of people who are valuable members of the special education department.

 

Qualifications:

Job Expectations:

  • Work with high needs student(s) to promote success within the school setting.
  • Develop a working knowledge of the students with which you are working.
  • Enthusiastically acknowledge student success.
  • Develop a positive working relationship with the student while retaining your professionalism as a staff member.
  • Provide positive feedback when the student is behaving appropriately.
  • Redirect student when necessary to keep him/her on task.
  • Work with the student within the parameters of the individualized education plan.
  • Scribe accurately for students if directed by the special education case manager and/or teacher.
  • Monitor and supervise students throughout the school day.
  • Perform various other duties including supervision and escorting students between classes when necessary.
  • Keep in regulat contact with regular education teacher; be the liaison between special education teacher and regular classroom teacher when appropriate.
  • Work with all students in the classroom but your priority will be the students to which you are assigned.
  • Be willing and able to teach small groups of students per the teacher instructions.
  • Maintain a log of activities that take place throughout the day and chart student behavior as instructed by the special education teacher.
  • Work to incorporate students into the school-to-work program as they transition.
  • Demonstrate flexibility as student and program needs change.

Physical Requirements:

 

The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands:

  • Ability to regularly walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, push, pull.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors; inclement weather at times
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Mandatory Conditions of Employment

  • High School diploma, or equivalent, and
  • Have one of the following:
    1. An AA Degree from an accredited academic college or university
    2. A minimum of 72 college quarter credits
    3. Have passed a district-recognized assessment of basic skills and instructional proficiency (currently the ETS test)
  • Training in use of behavior management preferred.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a team.
  • Previous successful work with children with behavioral challenges preferred
  • Successful clearance of the FBI and Washington State Patrol fingerprint background check
  • Successful Washington State Sexual Misconduct clearance
  • Completion of federal I-9 form
