Description

Position Summary:

As an occupational therapist in our educational organization you will provide specially designed instruction and related services.  The Occupational therapist collaborates with families and educational team members to develop appropriate education programs and advises on health related concerns as they impact education for students with special needs. 

 

Duties:

  1. Evaluation, program design, and service delivery for students who meet WAC criteria for motor Specially Designed Instruction, and other OT specific instruction. 
  2. Write, supervise, and perform services prescribed by students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEP).
  3. Work collaboratively with teams during, before, and after school.
  4. Assist other district staff in improving motor services and best practice within a public education setting.
  5. Manage, operate, and make minor repairs/adjustments to various equipment and supplies.
  6. Maintain strong, productive relationships with other employees, parents, and students.
  7. Maintain appropriate levels of confidentiality in all matters pertaining to students, parents, staff, and program.
  8. Other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Possess or qualify for immediate issuance of a valid Washington State teaching ESA certificate with appropriate endorsement(s).
  • Possess a degree in occupational therapy from an accredited school.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
  • Experience in public school setting is strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to translate OT services into improved school functioning for students.
  • Demonstrated ability to prescribe appropriate motor instruction and training; use a variety of strategies; plan and carry out services to meet varied needs of students.
  • Ability to establish rapport with students, colleagues, and classified personnel.

 

Physical Requirements:

The job's functions requires the following physical demands:

  • Occasional lifting (up to 30 pounds); carrying, pushing and/or pulling; some climbing; some stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling; and significant reaching, handling, speaking, writing, hearing, and fine finger dexterity; frequent standing, walking, and sitting.
