Description | General Description: This position encompasses a broad range of responsibilities, including but not limited to managing surplus inventory, transporting supplies and curriculum materials across the district, and maintaining the maintenance yard.
This position will also support the upkeep and enhancement of athletic fields, grounds equipment, and irrigation systems while ensuring a clean and safe work environment. Candidates should have expertise in turf maintenance, equipment repair, and irrigation systems, combined with a strong work ethic, a positive attitude, and exceptional customer service skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prioritize and maintain equipment repair and preventive maintenance programs.
- Operate and maintain grounds equipment such as mowers, tractors, and other turf maintenance machinery.
- Prepare and groom athletic fields, including striping and general upkeep.
- Perform manual labor tasks such as pruning, leaf blowing, raking, and heavy lifting.
- Handle snow removal and plowing duties as needed
- Read blueprints to locate valves, timers, and piping for irrigation systems
- Troubleshoot, install, and winterize irrigation systems, including sprinklers, controllers, and pumps.
- Organize and manage surplus inventory in compliance with school board requirements.
- Transport supplies and curriculum items across the district as needed.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
- Work independently and collaboratively, displaying initiative and a positive attitude.
- Collaborate with tradespeople and contractors for specialized tasks.
- Assist with maintenance yard cleanup and recycling operations.
- Write reports, follow district policies, and communicate effectively with colleagues and management.
- Exhibit flexibility and excellent attendance while taking on additional duties as assigned.
- Occasional evening or weekend work may be required based on district needs.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor(s).
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Valid Washington State driver’s license.
- Strong customer service skills and a positive attitude.
- Professional behavior and the ability to handle conflict appropriately.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships.
- Excellent attendance and punctuality.
- Self-motivated, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Neat and clean personal appearance.
- Ability to work safely and efficiently in varying environmental conditions.
- Valid First Aid/CPR certification.
- Ability to follow directions and instructions accurately.
- Experience troubleshooting and repairing hydraulic systems on mowers and turf equipment (pumps, hoses, drives, cylinders).
- Experience in welding, fabricating, and reading parts schematics, wiring diagrams, and repair manuals.
- Familiarity with blueprints and irrigation schematics is a plus.
- Proficiency in operating turf maintenance equipment, including mowers and tractors.
- Computer literacy to manage work requests and related tasks.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to perform physical activities such as climbing, balancing, lifting (up to 50 lbs.), carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
- Tolerance to dusty environments, exposure to chemicals, fuel, grease, and environmental irritants.
- Ability to work in adverse weather conditions for full shifts.
- Work in noisy, crowded settings, and tolerate exposure to fumes and odors.
Mandatory Conditions of Employment:
- Successful clearance of the FBI and Washington State Patrol fingerprint background check.
- Successful completion of Washington State Sexual Misconduct clearance.
- Completion of the federal I-9 form.
- Consistent presence at the assigned worksite with adherence to regular work hours.
- Compliance with all District policies and operational procedures.
- Adherence to the Code of Professional Conduct.
- Maintenance of punctuality and regular attendance.
- Completion of Eastmont School District’s SafeSchools online training annually by the prescribed deadline.
