GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The goal of the Head Coach is to instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. At the same time, the student shall receive instruction that will lead to the formulation of personal values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline, and self-confidence. In conjunction with the Athletic Director and respective Principals, the Head Coach supervises a staff and assists in overseeing the coaches at the Jr. High.
- The success of athletic programs has a strong influence on the community’s image of the entire system. The public exposure is a considerable responsibility and community/parent pressure for winning performance is taxing, but must not over-ride the objectives of good sportsmanship and good mental health.
- The position includes other unusual aspects such as extended time, risk injury factor and due process predicaments.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Thorough knowledge of all athletic policies approved by the Eastmont Board of Education and is responsible for their implementation by the entire staff of the sports program.
- Knowledge of existing system, state and league regulations; implements same consistently and interprets them for staff.
Staff Responsibilities
- Establishes the fundamental philosophy, skills and techniques to be taught by staff. Designs conferences, clinics and staff meetings to ensure staff awareness of overall program.
- Trains and informs staff; encourages professional growth by encouraging clinic attendance according to local policy.
- Delegates specific duties, supervises implementation, and at season’s end analyzes staff effectiveness and evaluates all assistants.
- Maintains discipline, adjusts grievances and works to increase morale and cooperation.
Organizational, Communication and Public Relation Duties
- Send information/correspondence to players/parents.
- Conduct pre-season orientation programs for parents, athletes and coaches.
- Develop procedures for open communication with parents and athletes.
- Promotes the sport within the school by recruiting athletes that are not participating in sports.
Administrative Duties
- Equipment inventory, ordering, management/repair and cleaning.
- Distribute team rosters to Athletic Office
- Determine and procure team awards.
- Complete required state association rules exam and all building/district trainings.
Training and Preparation
- Appropriate development of positive sportsmanship.
- Appropriate skill training, tactical training, and positive motivation.
- Appropriate attention to maturity, readiness and pairing of athletes.
Finance and Equipment
- Participates in the budget process with the athletic administrator. Responsible for operating within budget appropriations.
- Accountable for all equipment and submits fines for the cost of any equipment lost or not returned. Arrange for issuing, storing and reconditioning of equipment and submits annual inventory and current records.
- Monitors and assigns equipment rooms and coaches’ offices.
